Who Will Defend Our Farmers?

Posted by Leo Queale · Leave a Comment

These days, our farmers face a growing threat. Its not drought or colony collapse disorder, either. Its our government. The very government created to protect their liberty is instead launching lengthy undercover investigations into their practices, raiding family homes at gunpoint in the early morning hours, and passing financially impossible legislation that doesnt scale down to small, artisanal producers.

Who will defend our farmers? Who will fight their legal battles in court? Make persuasive arguments for their constitutional rights? Give counsel when overly zealous government enforcers want to take liberties with warrants and court orders?

Can Sponge Bob Make You Train?

We took Ella to the zoo yesterday to see her favorite Gorillas.

Fun day, walking around, spending time with her, and checking out some animals.

But then something very sad happened.

Were watching the sea lions swim around (theres a cool part you can see underwater) and theres a couple next to us with son, who looked to be about the same age as Ella 2.  The mom said “look at the sea lions.” And then turned to her husband and said “he doesnt even care, hes watching Sponge Bob” and I looked down to see the poor kid in his stroller with a pocket size TV “thing” and Sponge Bob on there.

Seriously?

So my initial thought was if THAT is what they do for him at the zoo, IMAGINE when hes home.  It all starts with the parents.  If youre active and show your kids that lifestyle, thats what they know.  Were living this now with Ella and try to lead that lifestyle for her.  We of course exercise ourselves, but then take her to the park, pool, or something else active every single day.

And it reminded me of some scary statistics.

  • A paltry 25% percent of the population is completely inactive.  Does NOTHING.  ZERO.  Scary.
  • A mere 21% of women strength train (arguably the most important piece to the physically active puzzle).

The list can go on.  None of this should be surprising to hear although it doesnt make it any less sad.

So what are we doing about this? Well, if y

The nation’s leading group of pediatricians is calling for a ban on all junk food and fast food ads during children’s television shows as a means of slowing the rising tide of obesity among young people.

In a policy statement published in the July issue of , the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) also asks Congress, the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communications Commission to eliminate junk food and fast food ads on cell phones and other media, as well as to prohibit companies that make such products from paying to have their products featured in movies.

“Given that we are smack in the midst of an epidemic of child and adolescent obesity, it doesn’t seem like all that bad an idea,” said Dr.

Less Stress, Better Sleep Aids Weight Loss

Posted by Leo Queale · Leave a Comment

Getting the right amount of sleep and reducing stress may jump start weight loss–even for people who already have a healthy eating and exercise regiment, new research has found. A two-step study on 472 obese adults found that those who got between six and eight hours of sleep and reported the lowest stress at the beginning of the 26 week study had the most weight loss success. The study’s researchers say this suggests that weight loss involves factors other than simple food and exercise changes.
